So very sorry I don't have pics of this, but according to my neighbors the bear that has been raiding garbage cans in the Gardiner area finally hit our house. Apparently my landlord thought a dog had gotten into things two nights ago and cleaned up the mess. Then my upstairs neighbor saw the bear going through the cans and cleaned up the mess today. The trash went to the dump and the cans are now put away until the winter hits and the bears are in their dens.
I forsee a change for trash-handling in Gardiner for the future. It's about time if you ask me. Below-average whitebark pine nut harvests are driving the bears to town for a final fill-up before hibernation. Compost heaps and trash cans are easy targets.
